Out they go..........

I guess that it is inevitable that as times move on so does the way that we do things.  If you want something second hand  these days you can look on trade me and find what you want but looking on trade me isn't the same as browsing in a junk shop and ending up with something that you didn't even know you needed!!!

The clothing alteration shop on the left was until recently a second hand shop and now this one above in the Queens gardens is closing down. Luckily my favorite one - Weirs is still going strong.  I'm not opposed to buying new things but it seems unnecessary to me to have everything new when there is plenty of good previously owned things to be had.

Yesterday I was my fathers daughter. I took a load of garden rubbish to the tip and came back with this lot.

6 little china cups that I really don't need but think are very cute, a pot lid to replace one that has broken , some picture books to cut up for card making  and these totally amazing cocktail forks. they will be so handy. I am going to cook a special dinner which requires us to eat only with these little forks. I'm excited about that already.
This weekend we are off to Wellington to move Rosie out of her flat. The last parcel has gone and in 2 weeks she will be here for a month before she heads off for her next adventure.

Here's to a week of changing times.

  1. Those cocktail forks look like they've never been used. They're sturdy enough and certainly won't limit your menu, why you could spear a chicken drumstick with one of those or a roast potato - just might be a bit tricky to eat like trying to eat a toffee apple. It's a nice idea, a yummy little cocktail before dinner. Are we cooking MA's birthday tea for her? We could do cocktails first.

  2. Oh nice, those cocktail forks look like fun on a little coloured handle. I want to come to your cocktail party!

  3. I'm excited about the cocktail fork dinner. Almost as excited as I am for you to be coming to stay in four weeks, and to be coming home for winter!

Good haul at the tip shop. Grandad would be proud!

  4. that is an impressive tip haul but not quite up there with a full size hot water cylinder. I recall a number of occasions dad returned from the tip with one of those. He used to refer to them as "a salmon". From memory he got around $30 worth of copper out of them. Speaking of salmon; Mary had Salmonella all weekend. It was brutal.

  5. Hey! Well, we sold our old hot water cylinder to the scrap metal dealers and got $90 so it was definitely worth doing- hooray for Dad and his crazy schemes! Sigh. I miss him.

  6. Aah it's so sad to see the end of the second hand shop era because it's been replaced with that shop of horrors Trade Me where people think there trash is gold plated and expect prices accordingly.
